For a good cause. The Lima Municipality in partnership with the Ministry of Health (Minsa) will carry out a new edition of the Lima Run 5k in support of blood donation.

On June 14th, World Blood Donor Day was commemorated, a date that seeks to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation for the benefit of patients who require transfusions. The event will take place on Sunday, July 3rd, starting at 6:00 a.m. and will have Washington Park in the Cercado de Lima as the starting and ending point.

Lima Run 5k: Up to four competitions and prizes for the winners

The race will have four competitions: Open, Master, Visual Disability, and Physical Disability; in addition, the first places will receive medals and prizes from the sponsors. It should be noted that, in order to comply with biosecurity protocols and reduced capacity, there will only be spaces for 1,000 runners.

Those runners who are interested can register for free on Monday, June 20th through the Lima Run Facebook page. In addition, Minsa will install modules on the day of the race for the public to donate blood.

It is worth noting that, according to data from Minsa in 2021, only 1.06% of the Peruvian population donated blood. In addition, out of all the collected units, only 21% (73,240) comes from voluntary donors; the rest come from replacement donors, 79% (276,343).
