Scotland and Ukraine faced each other on Wednesday at Hampden Park in Glasgow for the European playoff semifinals for the 2022 Qatar World Cup, where they played their last chances of qualifying for the major event in the Middle East.
For Ukraine, it seemed like a controlled match, as Andriy Yarmolenko and later Roman Yaremchuk established a clear difference for the visitors. Despite the score, the hosts did not give up and added tension to the match when Callum McGregor scored the goal at 79'.
Despite playing as the host, Scotland had conceded control of the match to their opponent and only reacted after the first quarter of the second half, with an offensive proposal attacking from the sides.
But the team coached by Steve Clarke still had chances, as at 79', after a short clearance from Ukraine, Callum McGregor shot over the goal. The defense cleared the ball off the line, but the referee indicated that it had already crossed the goal line.
