The World Super Flyweight FIB Champion McJoe Arroyo (17-0, 8 KO) is still waiting for a date to face the mandatory challenger, Filipino Jerwin Ancajas (24-1-1, 16 KO).
Arroyo had on his agenda to face Acanajas in February as part of the Martínez vs. Salido III card, but the card was canceled so a new date had to be set but there is still nothing official.
"I always thought I was going to fight in February. Well, we were going to fight in the same event as 'Rocky' and Salido, but that hasn't happened yet. We are training and hope to have a clear picture soon and a date. The opponent is already there and it's the mandatory; Jerwin Ancajas. The IBF ordered it to be him."
The Puerto Rican also assured that negotiations are going smoothly and that it will not be a fight that will go to auction.
"This is a fight that will not go to auction. There is good communication between the parties. I keep training until they give me the date. We are waiting for it."
It is expected to be a very strong fight because Ancajas has won 11 consecutive fights and all have been by knockout. The Filipino has a 62% knockout victory rate while Arroyo has a 42% rate, so it will be a very good fight.
Another point is that they have a common opponent and that is Mark Anthony Geraldo. Geraldo defeated Ancajas by majority decision. But Arroyo defeated Geraldo by a wide unanimous decision.
Ancajas comes from defeating Paul Apolirano by knockout in the first round on November 13, 2015.
On the other hand, Arroyo comes from defeating Arthur Villanueva by technical decision to become the new World Super Flyweight FIB Champion.
