PNP: False chain on WhatsApp would promise gifts at supermarket.

WhatsApp would be spreading links to supermarket prizes that would be acts caused by cybercriminals.

WhatsApp would be spreading links to supermarket prizes that would be acts caused by cybercriminals.

On Tuesday, it was identified through WhatsApp that a chain of fraudulent draws and awards would be spreading on the platform, links that would actually be attacks by cybercriminals to steal personal information. In response, it is warned that these links to supermarket prizes are 'completely false'.

The message in question has been forwarded by family members or friends, indicating in its dissemination that Tottus supermarkets are running a promotion for their '20th anniversary', so there will be gifts for their users just by accessing a link.

However, the link does not lead to any original page or any official page of the supermarket. This link is in the English language, and its initials represent a 'phishing' attack, a way in which cybercriminals collect personal data from users for criminal acts.

The National Police of Peru would alert about the fraudulent link

In order to break the spread chain, the National Police of Peru made the aforementioned fraudulent link known to warn all citizens.

"Did you receive a suspicious link through WhatsApp promising great prizes? Avoid clicking on it and by no means fill out your information. First visit their official page and find out if the prize or draw is real, that way you will prevent them from stealing your personal information", describes the PNP.

"It is a method that cybercriminals use to deceive and get you to disclose personal information, such as passwords, credit card information, social security information, and bank account numbers, among others", she added.
