The President of the Referees Commission, Héctor González Iñárritu, spoke exclusively to FOX Sports Radio after his meeting with the Disciplinary Commission and ensured that an exemplary punishment is already being requested against Fidel Kuri Grajales, owner of the Tiburones Rojos del Veracruz, who assaulted Edgardo Codesal during a Veracruz match.

"We are requesting an exemplary punishment for Kuri. We cannot say which one because the Disciplinary Commission does not know the final resolution yet. They call the parties involved and if they say a confrontation is necessary"

After the referees united in protest of this incident during the rest of Matchday 2 by wearing a white ribbon on their clothing, Iñárritu emphasized that, so far, no referee has refused to do their job in Veracruz.

"So far, the referees have not been against refereeing in Veracruz, on the contrary, they are a group very committed to the fans, to the stands. It's a commitment for every matchday, always encouraging more families to come together," he commented.

Dreaming of a day with no complaints about refereeing in the Liga MX or lower divisions is not a viable thought for him because, he said, it is part of the essence of soccer. On the contrary, he explained that although bad refereeing decisions can generate conflicts, it is important to be able to remedy them calmly.

"It's a very regrettable fact. There is anger, frustration, sadness, and helplessness because we are a family. We want to make amends, have a sanction, and leave the message that this is just soccer, it's nothing against anyone, and it can be resolved,"

If a sanction for the acts of violence against Edgardo Codesal, director of the Technical Area of the Referees Commission of the Mexican Soccer Federation, is approved, Fidel Kuri Grajales could be suspended from the Liga MX for up to 6 months.
