The independent Japanese gladiator and former sumo wrestler, Akebono, will undergo surgery due to a subcutaneous hematoma caused during his fight against Bob Sapp on the Rizin Fighting Federation show on December 31st.

It is important to remember that during that fight, governed by the rules of Shoot Boxing, it was stopped at 0:47 of the second round due to excessive bleeding from Akebono's neck, as a result of Sapp's continuous blows.

Originally, it was thought to be just a superficial wound, but as the days went by, the pain, inflammation, and skin discoloration did not subside, so the doctor determined that surgery was necessary to relieve the blood pressure in the area by removing the hematoma.

The surgical procedure is not complicated, although it is long, but the wrestler's recovery will be very fast, at the latest within a week, so the former Triple Crown champion will be ready for his commitment on February 20th with Wrestle-1 and the subsequent ones with Rizin and his company Royal Road.
