Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck - Quick-Step) seriously injured, feels "happy" to be given the green light to train again
The Belgian cyclist, Remco Evenepoel (Deceuninck - Quick-Step), seriously injured in the past Il Lombardia held in August 2020, feels "happy" after being given the green light by the doctors to resume training on the bike.
The 21-year-old cyclist from Schepdaal underwent a thorough examination of the injury suffered in Il Lombardia today, which revealed that the injuries have healed enough for him to start exercising on the bike again.

In the coming weeks, his progress will continue to be monitored by the medical team of Deceuninck - Quick-Step, who will consult with Evenepoel and the team management before planning his return to races.
"Obviously, I am very happy to be able to get back on my bike. For now, I have to take it step by step and depending on my progress, we can decide my future program, but the main thing is that I am moving forward," said the Belgian cycling prodigy.
Evenepoel's recovery is having ups and downs, something that the doctor of the Belgian team, Phil Jansen, considers normal.

"The recovery process from a fall of the magnitude that Remco had will always have some ups and downs. At first, everything was very positive and healed very quickly, but then we had a slowdown in the process," he explained.
For now, the cyclist's evolution invites optimism, but the doctor makes it clear that the remaining path to full recovery "is still long".
"We are happy that Remco can continue training for the start of his season. We will have to proceed with caution and it will still be a long road for him to be on the starting line of a race, but he is now going in the right direction," commented Jansen. (D)
