German coach Joachim Löw confirmed to continue until Euro 2020
The German coach Joachim Löw, threatened by recent poor results, was finally confirmed in his position on Monday and will lead the Mannschaft at least until Euro 2020, postponed to 2021, announced the German Football Federation (DFB).
"The DFB board unanimously decided on Monday in a teleconference to continue with coach Joachim Löw the difficult path of renewal started in March 2019," said the DFB in a statement, published after the meeting of its leaders and the 60-year-old coach, in the position since 2006.
The board, which was supposed to meet on Friday to decide on Löw's future, advanced the decision since it coincided with the opinion "of the executive committee and Oliver Bierhoff, director of the national teams," the DFB said.
This Monday morning, the five most important leaders of the DFB met with Löw, who had been in doubt after the 6-0 defeat against Spain in the Nations League on November 17, Germany's heaviest defeat since 1931.
"At this meeting, Löw informed the participants of his analysis, his concepts, and projects," the DFB statement said. "The members of the executive committee unanimously concluded that the high quality of the coaching staff's work, the intact relationship between the team and the coach, and a clear concept of what needed to be done so far and in the future were valid arguments."
"An isolated match should not be used to measure the overall performance of the national team and the coach," added the DFB, referring to the debacle against Spain.
"Our focus must remain on the preparation for the European Championship next year. We are firmly convinced that Löw and his team will be successful, despite the difficult situation for everyone," added the DFB. AFP
