Youssoufa Moukoko Makes History as the Youngest Player to Debut in the German Bundesliga
At 16 years and one day old, Borussia Dortmund striker Youssoufa Moukoko became the youngest player to debut in the German Bundesliga this Saturday against Hertha Berlin.
Moukoko came off the bench in the final moments of the match with a scoreline of 2-5 in favor of his team, breaking the record previously held by Nuri Sahin, who made his debut at 16 years and 335 days old in 2005, also for Borussia Dortmund.
One of the great promises of German football, although he also holds a Cameroonian passport, Moukoko was signed by Dortmund at the age of only 12 to play in the U-17 championship, where he scored 90 goals in 56 matches. At the age of 14, he was promoted to the U-19 category, where he has a record of 47 goals in 25 matches.
These overwhelming statistics led him to make his first two appearances for the German U-20 national team last September, at just 15 years old.
If Moukoko had not made his debut in the Bundesliga until now, it was because the regulations prohibit a team from fielding a player who has not turned 16... and the young player turned 16 the day before his debut. AFP
