Madrid -

The sports director of Richard Carapaz at Ineos Grenadiers, Gabriel Rasch, hopes that other teams with interests in the stage will attack this Saturday in the decisive stage of the 2020 Vuelta with a finish in Alto de La Covatilla, a day that the Ecuadorian faces second in the general classification, just 45 seconds behind the leader Primoz Roglic.

"Tomorrow (Saturday) is a very tough climb to the finish line. We will support Richie as much as we can and as best as we can. Hopefully, other teams will also seek to put pressure," said the former Norwegian rider on Friday.

  • For bonuses on stage 16, Carapaz moves six seconds further away from Roglic in La Vuelta

Rasch believes that "as everyone knows, La Covatilla is a difficult final" and that in it "anything can happen", so he advances that both Carapaz and Ineos will make their "best effort" to see if they are capable of overthrowing the Slovenian's leadership.

Regarding the stage on Friday with a finish in Ciudad Rodrigo, he pointed out that when they got ahead, it was more to recognize the race than to attack. "We wanted to review the ascent in that descent first because we knew it was technical and quite bad in some places. And we also wanted to make sure we were safe there and in a good position to start the final climb," Rasch said. (D)
