Vélez Sarsfield qualified on Wednesday for the round of 16 in the Copa Sudamericana 2020 by drawing 1-1 with Peñarol in the second phase rematch in Montevideo.

Goals scored in stoppage time

Both teams scored thanks to penalties in extra time. Thiago Almada scored for Vélez at 90+3 and Cristian Rodriguez did it for the home team at 90+6.

Away goal secures qualification

The away goal at the Campeón del Siglo stadium in the Uruguayan capital gave the Argentine club the qualification since the first leg clash in Buenos Aires had ended 0-0.

Quarterfinal opponent

The team led by Mauricio Pellegrino will face the winner of the Colombian series between Millonarios and Deportivo Cali in the round of 16.
