Benavente closed the victory for the Amberes team with a 1-3 win over Waregem. He started the match on the bench and in the 76th minute, he entered for Israeli player Lior Refaelov to seal the score in the 93rd minute with a run into the area and a cross-shot with his right foot.
Benavente hadn't scored a goal since April 6, 2019, when he celebrated a double with Pyramids in a match against Ismaily. In Europe, he hadn't scored since December 2018, when he was precisely in the ranks of Waregem. On that occasion, he scored against Charleroi and hadn't found the net for almost two years since then.
The Belgian press reacted to Cristian Benavente's debut with a goal. 'De Standaard' pointed out that the young player appeared with a "flash of class", while 'Gazet Van Antwerpen' indicates that the attacker and his teammates Haroun and Hongla "completely changed the situation in the second half".
