Drama in Barrio Obrero over Juan Espínola's separation
A small drama unfolded in Barrio Obrero following the departure of goalkeeper Juan Espínola. The footballer revealed the details of the situation, which sparked a harsh response from manager Douglas Martínez.
According to Espínola, the player submitted three offers to stay at the club, but the management countered with a proposal that did not meet the goalkeeper's interests.
"The difference wasn't significant. I am building my family and a house, unfortunately, we couldn't reach a financial agreement. They didn't even want to pay me $10,000," he said on 1080 AM, where he also confirmed that he will fulfill his contract until December.
Espínola's words led to a strong response from director Douglas Martínez, discrediting the goalkeeper and angrily responding to each question asked by the Fútbol a lo Grande panel.
"What he says is a lie. We improved his contract and then his agent changed the numbers. With all his flaws and virtues, we always accepted him. No one wants to recognize the effort we always made," he began saying.
The main issue for the director was the fact that the club's culture is to solve problems internally, recalling that the institution did not publicly criticize its players when there were disciplinary issues in the past.
This situation arises just on the day that Antony Silva joins the Albo team. The experienced 36-year-old goalkeeper arrives to compete for a position in Hernán Rodrigo López's team.
