Spanish goalkeeper Casillas celebrates victory with his team
Spanish goalkeeper Casillas, who did not play this season even though he was registered in the competition, saw his team win the "clásico" against Sporting Portugal (2-0) and jumped onto the field after the match to celebrate with his teammates.
"It had been 14 months since I last set foot in Do Dragão. In the end, one gets excited about this", said the goalkeeper in statements to Porto Canal, dressed in a Porto sweatshirt and a champion scarf.
Despite not playing a single minute since suffering a myocardial infarction on May 1, 2019, Casillas did not want to miss his team's celebration.
The Spanish player is very beloved by the Porto fans and a group of supporters launched a movement on social media this week to ask for the goalkeeper to be lined up for at least a minute in the remainder of the season in order to also claim the title of champion.
"I would like to play right now", joked the Spanish player, who thanked the blue and white fans for their affection because "I have been with Porto for many years", although he doubted whether he could fulfill the request: "As much as it depends on me, it also depends on the doctors and the club", he explained.
Casillas described the current championship as "strange": "After the break, it was difficult, but the players have been very good and they have deserved to be champions", he said.
The 39-year-old Spanish player arrived at Porto in the summer of 2015 and in four seasons he played 156 matches with the Dragons, with whom he won a league title and a Portuguese Super Cup.
