The Bundesliga will finally return on May 15, according to the German Football League

The German Football League (DFL) has decided that the Bundesliga will finally restart on Friday, May 15, after the meeting between German Chancellor Angela Merkel and the prime ministers of the 16 German regional states.

The authorities gave the green light on Wednesday for the Bundesliga to resume behind closed doors and under strict prevention measures in the second half of May.

The DFL informed the 36 clubs in the first and second divisions of the decision. The Bundesliga, with nine matchdays left, has been suspended since mid-March.

Christian Seifert, CEO of the DFL, welcomed the agreement. "It is good news for the first and second Bundesliga. It is also linked to a great responsibility for the clubs that must comply with the medical and organizational rules."

Behind closed doors

Of course, he acknowledged that the matches will be played behind closed doors and that this is not the ideal solution, but at the same time, it is the only possible one to finish this season.

The situation in the competition sees Bayern Munich leading, four points ahead of second-placed Borussia Dortmund, with Leipzig in third position.
