The Chinese real estate group Evergrande, owner of Guangzhou Evergrande, the current champion of China's football league, announced that it will build two stadiums with a capacity of 80,000 seats each, without specifying their locations in the country.
"Evergrande plans to build two additional football stadiums with a capacity of 80,000 seats each and invites the public to give their preferences by choosing two projects from the six preliminary plans," the real estate developer said on social media.
Evergrande did not specify the location or schedule for these two future projects.
The group, founded by the millionaire Xu Jiayin, one of the largest Chinese fortunes, has just embarked on the construction of a spectacular 100,000-seat stadium in Guangzhou, where its club Guangzhou Evergrande, managed by the Italian Fabio Cannavaro, will play.
The cost of the project is estimated at 12 billion yuan (1.55 billion euros, 1.65 billion dollars), with a delivery date before the end of 2022, making it one of the largest stadiums in the world.
China has embarked on a modernization of its football stadiums to increase its ticket sales revenue and, above all, become an important place in world football.
The Asian Cup of Nations will take place in China in 2023, and the country hopes to soon host a World Cup.
