The world champion coach with Argentina rejected football without an audience.

The legendary Argentine coach César Luis Menotti rejects the idea of playing soccer matches behind closed doors due to the coronavirus pandemic and points out that football belongs to the people because, if a match is played without an audience, it's like seeing Chabuca Granda sing alone at the Teatro Colón.

The coach who won the World Cup with Argentina in 1978 was clear and categorically rejected the idea of playing matches behind closed doors.

"Football belongs to the people, not to the world of business, and it's the people who are in the wrong. I couldn't stand a match without an audience, the spectators are the ones who support football."

But his explanation went further because in his analysis of the situation, he evoked the great Peruvian singer-songwriter Chabuca Granda.

"A football match without an audience is like seeing Chabuca Granda alone at the Teatro Colón, I'm speaking as a player and coach," Menotti said on Radio Ovación.

When asked about the coronavirus issue, the Argentine coach insisted that we must listen to scientists because if they say we must stay indoors, we must comply fully.

"We hope to be able to organize our sadness to then organize our joy, and hopefully it will be as soon as possible. It's a reality we have to live with. The players in this game of life belong to the scientists. If they tell me to stay indoors, I have to do it, I have no authority to argue. These cases are debated among scientists," concluded the 81-year-old strategist.
