Cars parked in front of giant screens broadcasting the match being played in an adjacent stadium is the solution proposed by Midtjylland, a club in the Danish first division, to allow fans to support their team despite the COVID-19 restrictions.

"First, we'll be able to accommodate around 2,000 cars with up to five fans in each of them", said Mads Hviid Jakobsen, spokesperson for the club in the city of Herning, winners of the Danish league in 2018 and currently leading the standings.

The announcement of this unprecedented drive-in theater has sparked enthusiasm on social media.

"I'm proud of my club", congratulated one Internet user on Facebook, while another was glad "not to freeze next time" they attend a match.

The Danish first division has been suspended since mid-March following the arrival of strict restrictions to limit the coronavirus epidemic.

In Denmark, matches, behind closed doors, could resume in the second half of May.

"We expect the first match to be played between May 21 and 31", said Hviid Jakobsen.

In this first experience, fans will be able to follow the commentary through audio broadcasts on their vehicle's radio, the club stated.

"If it's a success, it could reach 12,000 cars", said the spokesperson for Midtjylland, to the joy of up to 60,000 fans who are currently deprived of football at the stadium due to the coronavirus.

The venue in the town of Herning, the MCH Arena, can accommodate around 11,800 spectators. (D)
