Panam Sports, also known as the Pan American Sports Organization (Odepa), confirmed that it will not leave the athletes of the continent alone in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic, which affects practically the whole world and has caused the postponement of the Olympic Games.

The communication took place through a massive video conference between athletes from different countries and continental sports authorities in which the current situation of elite sports was discussed.

In front of more than 70 athletes from 32 nations, the president of Panam Sports, Chilean Neven Ilic, attended to the demands and needs of the athletes in an anomalous situation of confinement for many of them, amidst uncertainty due to the suspension of sports, in which many athletes were playing for qualification for Tokyo 2020.

"We are experiencing one of the worst health emergencies in world history and I know that it has been very difficult for everyone to live in quarantine, locked up in our homes. But health comes first," said Ilic.

Regarding the support of Odepa to the athletes, Ilic confirmed that the Pan American sports organization will maintain support programs for different committees, athletes, and coaches.

"Once this pandemic is over, we will schedule a series of training camps and support the Olympic Committees in whatever is necessary. We want our continent to be well represented in the Olympic Games," added the president of Odepa. EFE
