The players of the German national team have decided to donate 2.5 million euros to participate in the fight against the new coronavirus epidemic, announced their sports director, Oliver Bierhoff, on Wednesday.
"I am in contact with the players, and we have decided to offer immediate assistance of 2.5 million euros," said Bierhoff in a video conference press conference, in which German coach Joachim Löw also participated.
"We have spoken on the phone with the team's players," said Oliver Bierhoff, winner of Euro 1996 with the 'Mannschaft'. "I felt how the players were affected. They wanted to do something," he added.
Manuel Neuer, Ilkay Gündogan, Marc-André Ter Stegen, Joshua Kimmich, and Toni Kroos were at the origin of the initiative, said Bierhoff, so "Neuer then contacted the other players". AFP
