The UEFA will organize a new edition of the Eurocup starting from June 12 of this year. However, despite already having the twelve venues ready and most of its participants defined, this tournament may not take place on the initially established date due to the arrival of the coronavirus in the European continent.
Michele Uva, vice president of the UEFA, stated that they are closely analyzing the cases of coronavirus in Europe and will do everything possible to ensure that the 2020 Eurocup takes place without problems. However, he did not rule out the possibility that this tournament may indeed be suspended.
"We are in a waiting phase and we are monitoring what happens in all countries. Football must follow the instructions it receives from different nations, but we will try not to stop the 2020 Eurocup. However, its development will only be interrupted if the situation deteriorates," he said on RAI Radio 1 Sport.
Of the twelve venues of the 2020 Eurocup, one is very close to an area where the coronavirus has spread in Italy: Rome. In fact, the presence of this epidemic in the Italian country has caused several matches of the next Serie A matchday to be played without spectators in the stands.
