Borussia Mönchengladbach solidified their position as Bundesliga leaders this Saturday, defeating Bayern Munich 2-1 with two goals from Algerian Ramy Bensabaini, keeping them one point ahead of Leipzig.

Gladbach's comeback secures victory against Bayern

Gladbach had a good response in the second half after being on the ropes for practically the entire first half and conceding a goal in the 49th minute, scored by Croatian Ivan Perisic, which put Bayern ahead with a left-footed shot.

In the first half, Bayern was the clear dominator and had four clear goal-scoring opportunities, but in the second half, Gladbach pushed forward and, despite Perisic's goal, balanced the match.

The equalizer came in the 61st minute from a corner kick. Bensabaini outmuscled Leon Goretzka and scored with a header.

Gladbach sealed their victory through a penalty kick by Bensebaini in added time. The play originated from a counter-attack and also resulted in Javi Martínez's expulsion.

Bayern suffered their second consecutive defeat and, just like in their previous loss against Leverkusen, paid dearly for missed goal-scoring opportunities. The gap between them and Gladbach is now seven points.

For Gladbach, the victory confirms an excellent campaign in which Marco Rose's team were not expected to be title contenders.

Leipzig remains Gladbach's immediate pursuer after defeating Hoffenheim 3-1, with two goals from Timo Werner, one of them from a penalty, and another from Sabitzer.

The first goal came in the 11th minute, with a close-range shot by Werner, who, after a ball recovery, combined with Schick to enter the opposition area.

In the 51st minute, Werner was fouled in the penalty area by Posch and he himself scored the penalty to make it 2-0. Sabitzer scored Leipzig's third goal in the 83rd minute, and Bicackzik scored the only goal for the visiting team in the 89th minute.

Borussia Dortmund starred in the goal-fest on Saturday, defeating Fortuna Düsseldorf 5-0 with two goals from Marco Reus, two from Jadon Sancho, and one from Thorgan Hazard.

Dortmund temporarily climbed to third place, four points behind Leipzig and five behind Gladbach.

Freiburg remains in European positions after defeating Wolfsburg 1-0 with a goal from Jonathan Schmid, while Augsburg overcame Mainz 2-1.
