Never could I sleep without having written about such unconditional friends in the sports sphere, who have been called by the Supreme Lord to be together in their new abode. When the Maker chooses, we must obey His orders/requests so that souls and spirits may rest in peace.
"Friend" is a deep word, and even more so in the past, and for those of us who value it as an inheritance, it is a greater word that symbolizes sincerity. Today, with the apologies of the case, that word is distant. They were indeed loyal and unconditional.
How can I forget Washington Rivadeneira, sports cartoonist of our newspaper EL UNIVERSO, for decades. He was a creative character and readers expected his originality in every postcard; moreover, the faithful fan of his team admired the human warmth and imagination of River and accepted his drawings that portrayed sports events with humor/encouragement according to each club's position in the standings.
How can I forget René Secaira, elite lawyer; a gentleman in his office and upright in his actions. He was a professional who did not put his hand in the client's pocket, brilliant in defense, and his human honorability stood out. As an athlete, he was a leader on the field and never gave up on victory; how could I not remember him on soccer Saturdays at Vicente Rocafuerte school.
How can I forget Alberto Pellacini, a temperamental player and leader with the image of a gladiator in the defensive line. Argentine by birth, but with an Ecuadorian soul, he was my disciple when he played for that glorious 9 de Octubre team. A gentleman on and off the field.
Peace for River, René, and Alberto. God will talk to you daily... (O)
