UEFA Confirms Composition of Euro 2020 Draw

The UEFA confirmed on Wednesday the composition of the pots for the Euro 2020 draw, which will take place on November 30th in Bucharest. Spain is in Pot 1 as a top seed along with Belgium, Ukraine, Italy, England, and Germany.

Spain, like the rest of the host teams that are already qualified, already knows its group to ensure that they will play at least two matches in their country during the initial phase.

The Spanish national team will be automatically placed in Group E, which is scheduled to play its matches in Bilbao and Dublin. They will play their first three matches at San Mamés since the Republic of Ireland did not qualify directly.

The matches will be played on June 15th, 20th, and 24th.

For the draw on November 30th, the Netherlands and Russia, who are also hosts of the competition, will be in Pot 2 along with France, Poland, Switzerland, and Croatia. Portugal, Turkey, Austria, Sweden, and the Czech Republic will be in Pot 3 with Denmark, another hosting country.

Only Wales and Finland are guaranteed a place in Pot 4, pending the resolution of the playoffs in March to determine the four remaining spots.

The draw for these groups will take place on Friday, November 22nd.

Iceland, Bulgaria, Israel, Hungary, Romania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovakia, the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Norway, Serbia, Georgia, North Macedonia, Kosovo, and Belarus are the teams that will enter this draw.

When determining the top seeds, the UEFA took into account the ranking of the European qualifiers, determined by the final position in the groups, points, goal difference, goals scored, away goals, number of wins, number of away wins, fewer total disciplinary points, and overall position in the Nations League ranking.

The Euro 2020 will be played in twelve cities to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the competition and the semifinals and final will be held in London. The other host cities will be Bilbao, Amsterdam, Baku, Bucharest, Budapest, Copenhagen, Dublin, Glasgow, Munich, Rome, and St Petersburg.
