Thierry Henry Becomes New Coach of Montreal Impact

The Frenchman Thierry Henry, who had a previous experience as a coach at Monaco, has decided to continue his coaching career in the North American MLS championship, becoming the new head coach of Montreal Impact for at least two seasons.

"Henry has signed a two-year agreement, with an option for 2022," announced the Impact. The former forward (42 years old), World Cup champion in 1998 with France, knows the MLS well as he was a player for the New York Red Bulls (2010-2014).

Henry becomes the seventh coach of the Impact, succeeding Colombian Wilmer Cabrera, who assumed the position on an interim basis for two months after the departure of French coach Rémi Garde in August. Garde had joined Montreal's club in November 2017.

"It is an honor to become the coach of Montreal Impact and return to the MLS," said Henry. "It is a league that I know well and where I have had very good times," he added.

"I have always followed this club and now I am a part of it," he explained.

The Impact did not reach the playoffs in 2019, finishing in ninth place in the Eastern Conference.
