Students defeated Gymnasia y Esgrima as visitors with Víctor Ayala playing the entire match in a tense atmosphere before, during, and after the game.
Estudiantes wins the La Plata classic
The La Plata classic was won by Estudiantes by the minimum difference in a tense match played at Gimnasia's stadium in front of a massive crowd of the lobo that couldn't see their team's victory.
Víctor Ayala performed as a starter in Diego Armando Maradona's team and completed the 90 minutes on the field, having several long-range shots that goalkeeper Mariano Andújar responded well to. Pablo Velázquez was once again not included in the squad.
The solitary goal of the La Plata classic came at the 57th minute through Mateo Retengui. Estudiantes won the classic and extends their unbeaten streak against Gimnasia to 14 matches.
The match had several confrontations, the most heated being between Diego Armando Maradona, Gimnasia's coach, and Gastón Fernández, Estudiantes' captain. The exchange of words didn't go beyond that and remained as an anecdote.
Gimnasia is second to last with only 7 points and in a very difficult situation with regards to relegation. Estudiantes, on the other hand, climbed to the seventh position with 19 points.
