Argentinian José María 'Pechito' López (Citroën) revalidated his title as World Touring Car Champion by winning the first race of the penultimate round, held at the Burinam circuit in Thailand.

Pechito López led the first race from start to finish and, with his ninth victory of the season, clinched his second consecutive world title. In the second race, already crowned as the champion, the Cordovan finished fourth.
