China dominates women's 20-kilometer walk at the Doha World Championship
Ecuadorian athletes Karla Jaramillo and Glenda Morejón finished eighteenth and twenty-fifth, respectively, in the women's 20-kilometer walk at the Doha World Championship.
Liu Hong, the reigning Olympic champion, won the event, which took place on Sunday in high temperatures and humidity.
Liu Hong finished with a time of 1h32:53, ahead of her Chinese teammates Shenjie Qieyang (1 hour, 33 minutes, 10 seconds), who won silver, and Liujing Yang (1h33:17), who won bronze.
Jaramillo recorded a time of 1h38:26 and Morejón of 1h39:38.
According to the Ecuadorian Olympic Committee, the athletes competed under extreme conditions, with a heat index of 39°C and 70% humidity. (D)
