Berlin -

The former German cyclist champion Jan Ullrich was fined 7,200 euros after assaulting and causing injuries to a escort girl at a hotel in Frankfurt in 2018, the city's prosecution said Wednesday in a statement.

A Frankfurt court sentenced the 45-year-old former Tour de France winner (1997) to 180 days of fines at a rate of 40 euros per day.

Ullrich, who admitted the penalty, was under the influence of alcohol and drugs at the time of the incident.

The former champion made headlines again in 2018 due to several violent acts. In Spain, he was arrested for entering a neighbor's property and starting a fight. He was also arrested at Hamburg airport after assaulting a man.

The German press reported at the time that he was undergoing treatment in the United States for his addictions. (I)
