Pokémon cards are worth gold. It sounds exaggerated, but there is nothing truer in the interesting world of collectibles. The auction house Goldin Auctions sold a complete set of the first edition of Pokémon collectible cards for 107,010 dollars.
The Pokémon set auctioned, as reported by TMZ, is the original 1999 version that includes 103 cards in perfect condition and features the holographic edition of Charizard. Just for that detail, the starting price was 25,000 dollars.
Are you crazy about collecting your Pokémon cards? I'm afraid you won't be able to get close to this figure, due to this explanation from the director of Goldin Auctions.
"There is a common mistake when selling these cards. The secret to such a high price is not that the set is complete. A complete set from that time sells for around $1,000. The secret is what we call GEM Mint Condition Grading. It is a metric we use to measure the cards' condition based on their edges, color consistency, or brightness. The set that sold for $107,000 had the original color in perfect condition. Sometimes these cards have small white spots. The color of this set was impeccable on both sides," he explained to Kotaku."
