Dedicating oneself to Overwatch as a professional player is a more difficult task than in other esports, and that is why many pro-players leave their careers early. At least, that's what Brandon "Seagull" Larned, former player of the Dallas Fuel and streamer of Blizzard's shooter, thinks.

In a live stream on Twitch, Seagull reflected on why many players retire shortly after starting their competitive careers in Overwatch. Among the well-known people who have left the game are Gong "Miro" Jin-hyuk, Hwang "Effect" Hyeon, and Baek "Fissure" Chan-hyuk, among others.

Seagull compares Overwatch to other esports. He says that although Counter-Strike: Global Offensive also has several maps (although fewer than Overwatch), there are few changes in the game's balance. He points out that other games with constant changes, such as League of Legends and Dota 2 (where new characters are also introduced periodically), only have one map that hardly changes.

"It's much more difficult in Overwatch considering how much shit changes constantly in so many different maps," says the former professional player. "That makes Overwatch annoying after balance adjustments, because after each balance change that takes place, it changes in every map, and the meta of all the maps changes".

At the moment, Overwatch has 21 maps and four different game modes, each with its own meta and strategy. Seagull argues that because of the large number of different strategies, many teams imitate each other's plays because it is very difficult to develop your own for each scenario.

"We have more maps than average Counter-Strike professionals could have, and on top of that, we have balance changes, so as a result, professionals and staff from professional teams have to prepare for so many maps that it's obscene," he adds.
