After his great performance in the Lima 2019 Pan American Games where he won the gold medal in squash, Diego Elias spoke to 'Fútbol Como Cancha' in RPP Noticias and shared the emotional experience he had during the tournament.
"I don't think I'm the Federer of squash but I hope to be someday. I'm very happy with this medal, it's been the most important achievement of my career. Very happy with the support of my family and the people," he said.
He also mentioned how he felt when he defeated Colombian rival Miguel Rodriguez in the final. "Honestly, at first I couldn't believe it, then I thought about all the work I had done with my dad. I was very happy for myself and for him."
He emphasized the importance of his father in helping him become the Pan American champion. "My dad has been my coach since I was 3 years old, without him I wouldn't have been able to achieve this."
Finally, he talked about his opponent in the final, Miguel Rodriguez. "He is a very physical player." He also mentioned that the Colombian called him the next day to congratulate him, as they have a good relationship.
