Maria Fernanda Reyes had a good debut in surfing, at Lima 2019. In the first round of Longboard, she finished first with a score of 12.66, surpassing the Ecuadorian Michell Soriano (5.50) and the Chilean Constanza Fernández (4.70).
However, she had an incident in the next round. While she was in the sea, her board broke and she had to go to the shore to get a new one, which took away time to catch a good wave that would allow her to get a high score.
Thus, the 21-year-old Peruvian obtained a total of 5.06 points (4.33 in the first wave and only 0.73 in the second) and finished third out of three. The American Tiare Thompson scored 10.27 points and the Argentinean Gil finished second with 7.83.
"These are obstacles that one must overcome in life, tomorrow is a new day and I will continue with strength, from heat to heat," she said after the competition. The surfer Maria Fernanda Reyes will participate in the repechage this Thursday at 2:37 pm at the Punta Rocas Complex, for the Lima 2019 Pan American Games.
However, she expressed pride in the participation of her teammates. "We are a super united team, I am very excited that they are there. It is a great solid team," she concluded.
