German Angelique Kerber defeated American Serena Williams in the final, 6-3 and 6-3, in one hour and five minutes, to win the Wimbledon tournament for the first time and claim her third Grand Slam title.

Defeated by the same opponent in the 2016 final, Kerber took revenge two years later and prevented Serena from winning her eighth individual title at the All England Club, and at the same time equal the record of Australian Margaret Court, with 24 majors.

With this title, her second this year and her twelfth of her career, and the third in a major after the Australian Open and the US Open, both in 2016, a season in which she also won the silver medal at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, Kerber will appear fourth in the world rankings on Monday.
