The new project of Arsenal begins to take shape
The new project of Arsenal begins to take shape. After appointing Basque Unai Emery as their coach and recruiting German goalkeeper Bernd Leno and Swiss wing-back Stephan Lichsteiner, the board is now working to fulfill two other requests from their new coach. Both have to do with the Spanish coach's desire to establish a midfield that has offered poorer performance than expected in recent seasons.
After Jack Wilshere's departure, the coach promoted the renewal of the Swiss player Granit Xhaka and is now doing the same with Aaron Ramsey. Until now, the Welshman was not convinced, but after talking with Arsene Wenger's successor, he has changed his mind and shown his firm willingness to extend his current contract (which ends in June 2019).
The second move made by the former PSG coach is the signing of Lucas Torreira. The 22-year-old Uruguayan has experienced a sensational progression since he arrived at Sampdoria (74 official matches, 4 goals and 4 assists) and Emery believes that his arrival at the Emirates Stadium could be decisive in improving the balance between defense and attack.
According to The Telegraph, to complete this signing, the gunners will put on the table around £26 million (approximately €30 million), an amount that far exceeds the mere €2 million that the Genoa team paid to Pescara at the time.
