Tiger Woods is in position to make another weekend.
The 14-time major champion was 4 over through seven holes in the opening round of the Memorial Tournament but made five birdies in his final 11 holes to salvage an opening Even-par 72. Can he build on that Friday?
Whatever happens, we will follow his entire second round shot-by-shot below…
Hole No. 12: Par 3, 164 yards
OFF THE TEE (4:12 p.m. ET): OMG, Tiger … His ball appeared to glaze the flag before it landed and finishes 6 feet beyond the cup. We might have a birdie coming, and that would put TW 6 under for the round.
PLAY HAS BEEN SUSPENDED DUE TO INCOMING WEATHER. TIGER WILL HAVE 6-FOOTER FOR BIRDIE WHEN PLAY RESUMES.
Hole No. 11: Par 5, 567 yards
OFF THE TEE (3:51 p.m. ET): Tiger takes driver, and this one misses in the right rough. That is not ideal, so this is a layup.
SECOND SHOT (3:59 p.m. ET): Tiger wedges back into the fairway and should have a wedge in for his third.
THIRD SHOT (4:01 p.m. ET): YES!!!!!! Tiger HOLES OUT for eagle from the fairway and oh it is ON!!
That was so perfect, he landed it about 10 feet beyond the pin, it hopped a little forward and then spun back into the cup.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 5 under thru 11 (-5 overall, T-17)
Hole No. 10: Par 4, 477 yards
OFF THE TEE (3:37 p.m. ET): Another driver that is PIPED down the fairway. This is one is almost 320 down the left side of the short grass. Wonderful.
APPROACH SHOT (3:43 p.m. ET): Another one right on the money. This is a pretty shot that finishes about 15 feet right of the cup. He would be 4 under if he can knock that look in.
ON THE GREEN (3:48 p.m. ET): That one misses low, but it’s an easy par.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 3 under thru 10 (-3 overall, T-47)
Hole No. 9: Par 4, 412 yards
OFF THE TEE (3:22 p.m. ET): Tiger goes iron off the tee and this one is no problem, in the fairway.
APPROACH SHOT (3:27 p.m. ET): A nice approach here, as Tiger gets this one to finish about 15 feet below the cup.
ON THE GREEN (3:31 p.m. ET): Oh yeah! Drain-o. We’ve got another birdie. That’s a 3-under 33 after an opening three-putt bogey. Tiger’s stats: 5/7 fairways, 8/9 GIR, 14 putts.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 3 under thru 9 (-3 overall, T-37)
Hole No. 8: Par 3, 185 yards
OFF THE TEE (3:13 p.m. ET): Tiger goes right bunker off the tee on this par 3. That’s not ideal after a birdie, but we’ll see.
AROUND THE GREEN (3:16 p.m. ET): He ALMOST holes that one, but the ball just misses the cup as it runs by. The ball ends up moving 5 feet past the cup. So Tiger isn’t in for par yet, either.
ON THE GREEN (3:20 p.m. ET): He buries that one no problem. Great sandy there.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under thru 8 (-2 overall, T-47)
Hole No. 7: Par 5, 557 yards
OFF THE TEE (2:49 p.m. ET): Driver. Nuked down the middle. Just what we want to hear on a par 5.
APPROACH SHOT (2:57 p.m. ET): Tiger launches a long iron and it’s too much. The ball sails over the green and into a back bunker. Not an easy up and down from there, but a birdie is certainly still doable.
AROUND THE GREEN (3:04 p.m. ET): That was pretty. Tiger lands that on the back of the green, and the ball rolls and curls about 3 feet under the cup in front of the green. Birdie should be coming.
ON THE GREEN (3:10 p.m. ET): Yep. Another birdie. We’re feeling good here.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 2 under thru 7 (-2 overall, T-47)
Hole No. 6: Par 4, 447 yards
OFF THE TEE (2:33 p.m. ET): It looks like bunker for TW off the tee. He went with driver, and it leaked right from the start and appears to be in the sand.
APPROACH SHOT (2:40 p.m. ET): That was a deep bunker, but Tiger gets it up and out and hits a marvelous shot that finishes 15 feet under the cup. Tiger is starting to feel it.
ON THE GREEN (2:46 p.m. ET): Yeesh, another putt nosedives under the cup. This right-to-left swinger looked so good for so long but dove across the cup at the end. That’s an easy par, but that could’ve been an electric birdie.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under thru 6 (-1 overall, T-51)
Hole No. 5: Par 5, 508 yards
OFF THE TEE (2:16 p.m. ET): A 3-wood off the tee there, and that’s right down the fairway. Tiger will be able to go for this one in two.
APPROACH SHOT (2:22 p.m. ET): Tiger does go for it, but he misses the green right and a little short. He’ll need to get up and down from the fairway there for birdie, but it’s not a particularly difficult chip.
AROUND THE GREEN (2:25 p.m. ET): Tiger decided to putt from off the green and has this one finish 3 feet under the hole. That is some good touch, and we might have another birdie momentarily.
ON THE GREEN (2:29 p.m. ET): Yessir! Tiger birdies the fifth and he’s into red numbers.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 under thru 5 (-1 overall, T-48)
Hole No. 4: Par 3, 199 yards
OFF THE TEE (2:05 p.m. ET): Tiger fires this right at the flag and the ball goes just right of the flag and bounds about 15-20 feet beyond the cup. A beautiful shot and a nice look upcoming.
ON THE GREEN (2:13 p.m. ET): That was a good putt, but it wasn’t meant to be. That 18-footer swing from left to right looks good but dives under the hole at the last second. A good effort, though, and an easy par.
TIGER ON THE DAY: Even thru 4 (Even overall, T-60)
Hole No. 3: Par 4, 393 yards
OFF THE TEE (1:50 p.m. ET): Tiger takes out an iron and goes with the stinger. Perfect. This is a nifty one that finishes down the right side of the fairway.
APPROACH SHOT (1:56 p.m. ET): There’s a smile from Tiger! This one got a little bit away from him, as the ball flies over the green from 145 yards, but it lands on a downslope in the rough, kicks backwards onto the green and, combined with backspin, rolls all the way to 4 feet under the cup. An excellent birdie opportunity, and yes Tiger did get away with one there.
ON THE GREEN (2 p.m. ET): Yep! Rolls it right in. That’s an important birdie, Tiger moves inside the cutline with that birdie.
TIGER ON THE DAY: Even thru 3 (Even overall, T-59)
Hole No. 2: Par 4, 444 yards
OFF THE TEE (1:33 p.m. ET): After that disappointing bogey, Tiger takes a fairway wood that goes over 300 yards down the left side of the fairway. Pretty.
APPROACH SHOT (1:40 p.m. ET): Another solid second shot. This one finishes inside 25 feet under the cup. A decent look upcoming.
ON THE GREEN (1:29 p.m. ET): He can’t get it to drop. But this one had better speed and left him a tap-in. This is a par.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 over thru 2 (+1 overall, T-73)
Hole No. 1: Par 4, 465 yards
OFF THE TEE (1:16 p.m. ET): Tiger takes 3-wood here, and that’s a miss to the right. It’s nothing terrible, the ball is in the rough, but that was not well-executed.
APPROACH SHOT (1:22 p.m. ET): That was textbook. Tiger muscles out a wedge from 165 yards and gets this ball to finish 30 feet under the hole. That pin was tucked right, so with Tiger in the rough on the right, that was pretty much as good as he could do.
ON THE GREEN (1:29 p.m. ET): Yikes. Tiger runs his first putt 4 feet by and then his comebacker hits the left lip and stays out. That’s a rough opening three-putt bogey, and he’s now outside the cutline.
TIGER ON THE DAY: 1 over thru 1 (+1 overall, T-72)
