Richard Carapaz will receive a tribute during a tour through several cities

Starting at 08:30 on Thursday, the tribute tour to Ecuadorian cyclist Richard Carapaz, who had a remarkable performance in the recent Giro d'Italia, will begin in Quito.

Carapaz arrived in Quito on Wednesday afternoon and during a conversation, he recalled his beginnings in cycling and spoke about the lack of support for his sport, something he hopes will change with his performance. "I experienced what Jefferson Pérez did (gold medalist in the 1996 Olympic Games). Like him, I did not have the support at the time, but we see that effort and perseverance bear fruit and history can be made for the country. That lack of support should not happen to future generations," he commented.

For Thursday, he plans to tour some streets of Quito in a caravan starting from the Tribuna de los Shyris, following Eloy Alfaro, República, Amazonas, until the Bicentenario park.

Later, he will travel to Ibarra, Julio Andrade, and Tulcán, where another caravan will take place from the Obelisco in that city to the Central Plaza, where he will arrive to receive an honor from the authorities of the Carchi province.

CNE delivers forms for revocation of mandate of Mayor Mauricio Rodas

At 10:00 today, the National Electoral Council (CNE) will deliver the collection forms of signatures to the Diabluma group for the revocation of the mandate of Quito Mayor Mauricio Rodas.

The CNE accepted the executed sentence of the Electoral Disputes Tribunal (TCE), and approved the delivery of those forms for the revocation of Rodas' mandate due to non-compliance with his duties.

The assembly members of the Suma movement, to which Rodas belongs, had condemned and rejected the resolution of the CNE to allow the delivery of those forms to the Diabluma group.

They had expressed that any revocation should have been done before the deadline of one year of administration, which they claimed had expired on May 14, 2018. The Suma assembly members said that the same electoral body had rejected the revocation request three times, and therefore a sentence had been issued stating that there was no breach on the part of Mayor Rodas.

Hearing of involvement of former intelligence officials for the Fernando Balda case

Today, starting at 10:20, the hearing of involvement of the former Director of Intelligence of the Police, Fausto Tamayo, and the former Secretary of Intelligence, Pablo Romero, will take place within the case investigating the kidnapping of politician Fernando Balda in Colombia in 2012.

After former President Rafael Correa gave a statement about this case, the acting Attorney General, Paul Perez, had also requested certified copies of credentials or minutes given to Correa by the National Electoral Council (CNE), with which he was appointed president.

Perez's request was part of a fiscal impulse that also orders 28 other new proceedings, including taking 22 statements from former intelligence and counterintelligence officials of the National Intelligence Secretariat (Senain), the National Police, and the Presidency of the Republic.

CREO seeks to formalize request for political trial against Chancellor María Fernanda Espinosa

At 11:00 this Thursday, the CREO movement bloc plans to formalize, in the National Assembly, the request for a political trial against Chancellor María Fernanda Espinosa.

The request is due to non-compliance with duties in cases related to Julian Assange, the crisis in the northern border, and non-compliance with agreements with Honduras.

"There is a political principle that needs to be respected by all nations, which is 'Pacta sunt servanda,' agreements must be respected; in that sense... the foreign service must be at the service of the citizens; the Ecuadorian foreign service has been at the service of the whims of the Republic's Chancellor," said CREO assembly members.
