The Athletic Association Quimsa (Santiago del Estero) dominated from start to finish in the game against the Central Córdoba Athletic Institute (Córdoba) and was able to narrow the gap in the quarterfinals of the National A Basketball League 2017/2018.
Deservedly, they won 95-80 against the Cordobeses as the home team, with a great crowd that made themselves felt with their encouragement at the Ciudad stadium. This Friday, at 22:00, the Santiago and Córdoba teams will meet again in the "Mother of Cities".
Torin Francis (22 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal) and Jeremiah Massey (13 points, 9 rebounds, and 2 steals) stood out for the home team. Samuel Clancy (16 points, 15 rebounds, and 1 assist) and Facundo Piñero (22 points - 6 three-pointers -, 7 rebounds, and 1 assist) were the stars of the visiting team.
The strong defense of Nicolás de los Santos (later taken by Sebastián Vega) on Dwayne Davis, the strength to become strong in defensive rebounds, and the offensive fluidity taking advantage of the fast break in several passages, and the fast-paced game in others, allowed Quimsa to play comfortably and win the first half 54-39, after being 21 points up at some point.
In the third quarter, Instituto improved with a zone defense and Piñero's prominence from the perimeter, Luciano González's penetrations, and Clancy's strength in the paint. They reduced the score to eight (70-62) with 1 minute and 30 seconds remaining. The home team relied again on Francis's outstanding performance to win the partial score 73-62.
The Cordobeses never gave up and reacted again through Piñero. But Quimsa did not lose focus and, driven by their people, regained control of the game with De los Santos and Leonel Schattmann's runs, and Juan Brussino's great leadership. So much so that in the end, they had no surprises to round off an important victory by 95-80 and extend the series until Friday.
