The Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon played his last match for Juventus on Saturday, ending his 17-season career with a 2-1 victory against Hellas Verona in the Italian Serie A.

Buffon announced his farewell to Juventus on Thursday in an emotional press conference. On Saturday, he was welcomed by the Allianz Stadium crowd in Turin with a large banner representing him holding the "Scudetto" won this season.

The 40-year-old captain of Juventus started the match and played for 63 minutes before being substituted. He received a long and intense ovation from the audience, his teammates, and also the Verona players.

The Italian goalkeeper ended his long and successful career with the "bianconeri" team, winning 19 trophies. His last season finished with a double, Scudetto and Coppa Italia.

'Gigi', as he is nicknamed in Italy, was the main protagonist of the match at the Allianz Stadium, corresponding to the 38th and last matchday of the Serie A, where Juventus, who was already mathematically crowned champions, faced Verona, already relegated.

In a festive atmosphere, Juventus triumphed 2-1 thanks to goals from Italian defender Daniele Rugani (50') and Bosnian midfielder Miralem Pjanic (52'), who scored a great direct free-kick.

Argentine player Paulo Dybala started the match and came close to scoring a beautiful chip goal, but the ball hit the crossbar and bounced out.

The goal for Verona was scored by former Atlético Madrid player Alessio Cerci in the 76th minute.

Juventus finished the league season with 95 points, seven more than Naples, who will face Crotone on Sunday at the San Paolo stadium.
