The Queen of Swimming
American swimmer Katie Ledecky shattered her own world record in the 1500 meters, covering the distance in 15 minutes, 20 seconds, and 48 hundredths.
The 21-year-old athlete, recently turned professional to sign lucrative endorsement contracts, once again proved to be the queen of the distance by surpassing the previous world record of 15:25:48 set at the 2015 World Swimming Championships in Kazan, Russia.
Ledecky, who has five Olympic gold medals and 14 medals in World Championships, along with world records in the 400 and 800 meters freestyle, has an impressive performance in the 1500 meters.
Her compatriot Kate Ziegler set the world record in this distance in 2007 with 15:42:54 minutes, but Ledecky broke it in 2013 with a time of 15:36:53 while still a student at Stanford University.
In 2014, she broke the record twice with times of 15:34:23 and 15:28:36, and the following year she did it the same number of times with times of 15:27:71 and 15:25:48.
