The Atlanta Hawks have made their intentions clear. The franchise is soon to undergo a rebuild and Dennis Schroder could look beyond his own team to continue his career, if things don’t point in the right direction.

The German international spoke in his native land in front of the national federation, commenting on his future in the league with no clear sense of what the future holds.

“I don’t know what the organization has in mind, that’s why I am going back in a week,” said Schroder, according to international reporter David Hein. “Of course Atlanta is my city, I was drafted there, have a lot of memories, but like I said, I have to look individually what’s the best for me..”

“I will talk to the general manager and owner of the team and we will talk about the organization and what they want to do in the future. My agent will also be there and he will talk to them tomorrow and Wednesday to see how it continues on.”

The 6-foot-1 point man didn’t rule out a potential change of jersey, noting that things will have to change if the Hawks hope to keep him in Atlanta in the future.

“I will be 25 in September and of course you want to win a title some time. In my prime – 25, 26, 27, 28, 29 – I want to compete. I cannot be second to last in the Eastern Conference. That’s why I will have the talks with the Atlanta Hawks.”

Schroder had a career-best 19.2 points per game scoring average after Paul Millsap moved to Denver over the offseason, but his play hasn’t been enough to bring the young pieces around him to the forefront.

Head coach Mike Budenholzer recently parted ways with the organization after the team reportedly was looking to rebuild much in the same way that the Philadelphia 76ers did during the start of The Process.
