ST. LOUIS, Mo. — Iowa State’s Meaghan Sievers, a junior from Gary and former Deuel High School standout, will compete today (Friday) in the vault at the NCAA Gymnastics Championships.
The championships will also run Saturday. Sievers qualified by winning the vault last weekend in the Minneapolis Regional, tying her career high with a score of 9.925.
Sievers also tied for eighth in the all-around (39.25), tied for 19th in the balance beam (9.725) and was 26th in the uneven bars (9.7775) and 29th in the floor exercise (9.825).
“I’m so excited for the opportunity to go back.” Sievers said. “This is something we all work for in the gym every day. To be able to go there and represent Iowa State is very exciting and I couldn’t be happier to go there.”
Iowa State finished fifth as a team with a score of 195.925.
It’s the second time Sievers has qualified for nationals, also competing in the vault as a freshmen in 2016.
Sievers’ former high school teammate, Sam Wiekamp — a senior at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, also competed in the Minneapolis Regional. She was 16th in the all-around (36.975), 37th in the floor exercise (9.7) and 42nd in the vault (9.275), uneven bars (9.0) and balance beam (9.0).
