In a close game, Mexicas won the Divisional Final of the Central Zone of the Liga de Futbol Americano (LFA), defeating Mayas 27-17 at the Estadio Jesús Martínez 'Palillo' in this capital, and with that, secured their spot in Tazón México III, where they will face Raptors.

Both teams faced each other a couple of times in less than 15 days, and that created a growing rivalry on the 'Palillo' field. Mayas was the first to attack in search of victory, but in the end, Mexicas came out on top with a 27-17 win.

Quarterback Ricardo Quintana scored for Mexicas, with the extra point converted by Carlos Soria, putting the score at 0-7 on the scoreboard.

The second quarter had the same scenario, but an error made the difference. Mayas' Omar Cojulum tried to break the defense, but failed to do so, while Marco García succeeded in making a touchdown to level the game at 7-7, with the extra point.

Another attempt led Quintana to make the score 7-14 for Mexicas. Mayas made mistakes in their reception, preventing them from having a better offensive performance. The first half ended with a field goal by Mauricio Morales, bringing the score closer at 10-14.

In the third quarter, Mexicas scored a field goal to make it 10-17. This forced Mayas to search for a first and 10, but Omar Cojolum's attempts to break through the red wall were unsuccessful.

Mayas continued their efforts through Marco García, who attempted a fourth opportunity without success. Óscar Olivares, from Mexicas, was the main factor in nullifying the offense of the 'blue empire'.

In the final quarter, Mayas responded with a trick play by García, throwing a touchdown pass to Josue Martínez to make it 16-17, followed by the extra point to tie the score with a Morales field goal.

Mexicas headed towards victory when Guillermo Villalobos received a pass from Quintana in open field to score a touchdown and make the score 23-17, with the extra point making it 24-17. In the end, Soria scored three more points to make the final score 27-17.

Thus, Mexicas will face the 'Furia Verde' from Raptors on the next 22nd of the present month at the Azul stadium, aiming to win Tazón México III.
