Jeff Hornacek lasted two seasons in New York after being hired by Phil Jackson.

The Knicks have fired coach Jeff Hornacek after two seasons, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported early Thursday.

Wojnarowski reported Hornacek was told of the decision after the team returned from its season-ending game in Cleveland on Wednesday.

MORE: Hornacek's firing was foretold in March

Hornacek, 54, has one year remaining on his contract, Wojnarowski reported. He was 60-104 (.366) during his Knicks tenure, including a 29-53 mark this season. His teams missed the playoffs both years.

Former team president Phil Jackson hired Hornacek in 2016. After Jackson was fired last year, it appeared inevitable that Hornacek's dismissal would soon follow.

Assistant coach Kurt Rambis, a confidant of Jackson's, was also dismissed, Wojnarowski reported.

Hornacek's successor — Wojnarowski reported former Knicks guard and Warriors coach Mark Jackson is among the early candidates — will inherit a roster led by young players such as power forward Kristaps Porzingis, who's recovering from a torn ACL; point guards Emmanuel Mudiay and Frank Ntilikina; and shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr.
