Police called after New England Patriots' receiver Julian Edelman alerted to school shooting threat
A message on social media from New England Patriots' receiver Julian Edelman led police to a teenager who threatened to carry out a shooting at his school.
Edelman received a message from a concerned Instagram follower late last year. The follower told him about the threat to "shoot up" a school in the comments section of his account, according to a report by The New York Times.
Edelman notified his assistant, Shannen Moen, who called the police. Authorities traced a 14-year-old boy in Michigan, who admitted to posting the threat to his high school.
The young boy has been charged with making a false report of a terrorist threat, according to authorities.
Edelman said that the "real hero" is the person who alerted him, and he plans to send them a gift.
