Close to 100 representatives from Azuay will participate from this Thursday in the second round of the National Interclubs Speed Skating Championship, which will take place at the Miraflores track in Guayaquil.

According to Gabriela Cavalieri, president of the Azuay Skating Association, the Ecuador Skating, Hermanos Martínez, Gabriela Cavalieri, and Speed Force clubs will attend.

In addition to them, Warriors of the South from Loja; Halcones, Tequendama, Shyris Skate, and Jempe from Pichincha; Golden Skate and Universal Skate from Guayas; and Jota Bolaños from Carchi, among other clubs, will also participate.

In the national event, competitions will be held in all categories, from the mini-infant division, where athletes under seven years old participate, to the senior division, for both ladies and gentlemen. "The level will be strong, but that's what we need to continue growing. By history, Azuay has led this sport and we must maintain that position," explained Cavalieri.

In the first round that took place in February at the Totoracocha Skating Rink in Cuenca, the winning team was the Gabriela Cavalieri club, which scored 819 points, followed by Warriors of the South from Loja with 785 points.

The third place went to Halcones, totaling 615 points. In the fourth position was Ecuador Skating from Azuay with 573 points, while the Jempe club came in fifth with 536 points.

In the international field, the most important challenges for the national team are the XI South American Games in Cochabamba and the World Championship in the Netherlands. (D)
