Match Recap: Sporting Kansas City vs Colorado Rapids

In a match that lacked no excitement at DSG Park in Colorado, the hero for the visitors was Diego Rubio, who scored and gave one point to Sporting Kansas City in their difficult visit to the Colorado Rapids in the fourth round of the MLS.

Despite the home team taking the lead in the early minutes of the match thanks to goals from Dominique Badji and Joe Mason, Peter Vermes' team managed to recover from adversity and, thanks to the great performance of Chileans Felipe Gutierrez and Diego Rubio, had the ability to react in the second half.

After the two goals from Colorado Rapids, the visiting team started to be more aggressive towards the opponent's goal. However, the main problem for Vermes' team was the finishing touch in front of Tim Howard's goal, who prevented them from scoring on several occasions.

This was how the first 45 minutes ended, with a Colorado Rapids team aiming to achieve their first victory of the season, unaware of what would come in the second half.

In the second half, the roles changed drastically and the visiting team started to dominate the ball and create opportunities. In the 57th minute, Chilean Felipe Gutierrez won a contested ball inside the opponent's area and fired it past Tim Howard. At that moment, Sporting Kansas City's hope revived, knowing that the draw was possible.

Gutierrez scored for the third consecutive match, reaching 4 goals in the season and equaling Venezuelan Josef Martinez of Atlanta United.

With a Colorado Rapids team completely retracted within their own half, Kansas City's constant attacks announced the imminent danger that would come in the final minutes of the match.

With 10 minutes left in the game, it seemed that despite the visitors' insistence, the three points would stay at home. However, Sporting Kansas City never gave up and in added time the hero appeared. Diego Rubio had been on the field for only 3 minutes when he received an incredible pass from Shelton and fired past Tim Howard, ending the match in a 2-2 draw.
