West Ham United falls to Burnley in the Premier League
West Ham United lost again in the Premier League, this time falling 3-0 to Burnley. Mexican striker Javier 'Chicharito' Hernández was unable to prevent the defeat.
The Hammers wasted their home advantage at the London Stadium as their opponent showed greater efficiency in front of goal in the second half, led by experienced goalkeeper Joe Hart.
After an hour of play, Austrian Ashley Barnes scored with a right-footed shot to make it 1-0, and then New Zealander Chris Wood capitalized on a good pass from Aaron Lennon to increase the lead to 2-0 at the 70th minute.
With the pressure mounting, Scottish coach David Moyes made a substitution, bringing in 'Chicharito' in the 71st minute to replace Portuguese Joao Mario, but the Mexican striker was not able to contribute much.
He appeared eager and enthusiastic, but had few opportunities with the ball. He did provide a service for Austrian Marko Arnautovic, but they were unable to close the gap in the scoreline.
The definitive 3-0 victory for Burnley came from Wood, who had an outstanding performance with an assist in the first goal and then scored a brace, keeping his team's dream of qualifying for European competitions alive.
With this result in matchday 30 of the Premier League, West Ham remains on 30 points and is still dangerously close to the relegation zone, while Burnley reaches 43 points.
'Chicharito', who has scored seven goals in the competition, entered the game as a substitute for the eighth time in search of a solution, but West Ham suffered their third consecutive defeat.
