One of the first events of the 50th anniversary celebrations of the 1968 Mexico Olympics will be a series of High Diving from Paseo de la Reforma, featuring Mexican Jonathan Paredes, a world medalist, as the main competitor.
A platform at a height of 27 meters and a pool with a depth of eight meters will be set up in the BBVA Bancomer tower on March 11, with the competition open to the public and scheduled to begin at 12:00 pm.
In addition to Jonathan Paredes, other participating divers include Mexican Sergio Guzman; Colombians Orlando Duque and Miguel Garcia; Russians Michal Navratil and Artem Silchenko; American David Colturi; Ukrainian Gary Hunt and Pole Kris Kolanus.
The diving pool will be a metal and acrylic cylinder with dimensions of eight meters by 12 meters in diameter, capable of holding 904,320 liters of water; the structure will be self-supported on a platform on the street floor.
Since 2009, the Cliff Diving World Series, an annual international high diving competition, has been taking place. This event was officially recognized by the International Amateur Swimming Federation (FINA) since 2014.
