Spectacular and Dangerous Winter Olympic Disciplines
The disciplines of the Winter Olympics are as spectacular as they are dangerous. As proof, there is the chilling injury suffered by skier Markus Schairer in the snowboard competition.
The Austrian athlete was competing in the quarterfinals of his discipline when he failed to maintain his upright position after a long jump, causing him to crash awkwardly on the snow and fracture his neck.
According to the medical report presented by US Today, Schairer injured his cervical vertebra; however, this did not prevent him from getting up and finishing the event.
